Carbohydrate Substitutes For The Atkins Diet

Cutting down on carbohydrates with the Atkins diet is easy when you see the wide variety of proteins and vegetables that are on the acceptable foods list. However, it does take some time and adjustment to get used to this new way of eating. A lot of the American diet centers around complex carbohydrate foods like breads and pastas. Snack foods are full of sugars and refined carbohydrates. This new way of eating will challenge your old habits. However, there are many carbohydrate substitutes that can fill in the gap.

Some of the most popular replacement items are sugar substitutes. These can be good or bad depending on how you react to them. Each person has a different reaction to artificial sweeteners like aspartame and Splenda. They can be helpful in baking low-carbohydrate treats and making things taste sweet without risking sugar use. However, many people find that using artificial sweeteners makes them crave sugar even more. If you find you want more sweet treats after drinking a diet soda or eating a snack made with Splenda, its best to eliminate them entirely from your diet.

Bread is the number one challenge that Atkins dieters face when looking at their new diet plans. Bread is a staple food for many people, and eliminating it can be somewhat of a problem. There are some low carb breads available out there, but you have to watch for hidden carbohydrates and other unacceptable ingredients. If you are ambitious, you can try making your own bread out of almond flour or other non-traditional flours.

Many people say that they love pasta, but people vary rarely eat it plain. The best part about pasta is the topping. So taking those toppings (meat, cheese and vegetables) and putting them over something else is an easy solution. Many people who follow the Atkins plan have found that squash makes a good pasta substitute. Spaghetti squash, a yellow orange gourd with stringy insides, is a natural base for homemade meat sauce. Zucchini is also a good pasta substitute. You can grate in into fine pieces or chunk it up into sections to act as a base for sauces. Lasagna is easily made with large pieces of eggplant as a substitute for the noodles. The meats and cheeses used in lasagna are low-carb so there’s nothing to worry about there.

Another common problem for Atkins dieters is finding a good substitute for rice. One popular solution is to use cauliflower. Simply place the cauliflower florettes in a food processor and chop them until they are rice sizes pieces. Then microwave the “rice” without water. The pieces will come out fluffy and ready to be used in casseroles or as part of a side dish.

Cauliflower is also a popular potato substitute for Atkins dieters. This time, puree the cauliflower until it is smooth and creamy, just like mashed potatoes. You can add your favorite low-carb topping to it like bacon, sour cream and cheese.

Pizza is a favorite food for many people, but there are Atkins friendly solutions for homemade pizzas that taste just as good. You can make small pizzas using low-carb tortillas as the crust. You can also use the same method with large Portobello mushrooms. If the alternative crust options don’t sound good to you, you can also try a pizza casserole with all of the ingredient layered in a casserole dish.
These substitutes will help you avoid indulging in your high-carb favorites while on the Atkins diet.

How To Lose Weight To Cure Cancer

It was in the headlines in a national newspaper two days ago as of this writing. The front page caption was “Lose Weight To Cure Cancer”. When I read it I some how laughed to myself. This is something I have known for a long time. In-fact I helped my aunt cure herself by urging her to lose weight a few years ago.

Yes a few years ago my aunt had Leukemia. Now she is in remission and has never felt better. But before I tell you how she did lose weight to cure cancer, let me tell you a little bit about this type of cancer called Leukemia.

What is Leukemia?

Leukemia is a form of cancer that starts in the stem cells of the bone marrow that make blood cells. Bone marrow is a soft spongy material that fills up the centre of the bones where also the blood is made. Then the blood stem cells develop into myeloid stem cells or lymphoid stem cells.

Lymphoid stem cells develop into 1 of 3 types of mature stem cells.

1) Red blood cells: These carry oxygen to tissues of the body.
2) Platelets: These form clots in damaged blood cells to prevent bleeding.
3) White blood cells: These are also called granulocytes and monocytes. They destroy bacteria and help to prevent infection.

Then we have Lymphoid stem cells that develop into lymphocytes. They are usually found in the lymph nodes and lymphatic system.

Leukemia develops when the blood stem cells in the bone marrow make abnormal cells. These abnormal cells are then called leukemia cells. As time goes by the leukemia cells take over the normal cells and make it hard for the white and red blood cells to do their job.

Now that you have a little bit of knowledge on what leukemia is let me tell you how my aunt cured herself with out drugs or chemotherapy. As you may know I am not a medical doctor but i am a weight loss expert so it was only natural for me to suggest to my aunt to practice some alternative health methods.

This is what I told her to do:

Fast For Five Days:

When I told my aunt that she had to fast for five days without food but only water she was terrified. But in the end she did it. The first two days were the toughest but but after that it was easy. Fasting removes all toxins from the body which cause the cancer in the first place.

Eat Raw Food:

Yes raw food. I got my aunt on the Paleo diet which consists of 90% raw food. The only food she did not eat raw was the lean beef because these days the cows are given antibiotics before they are slaughtered. All she was to eat was every type of vegetable and fruit she could lay her hands on, coupled with meat of course, chicken, fish, nuts and seeds. She was not to eat simple sugars, white bread or grains because these foods encourage the growth of cancer cells.

An Exercise Program.

My aunt is 66 years old a had never exercised in her life so I slowly led her into walking her dog for an hour a day to running for half an half a day. Then she started to incorporate some body weight exercises into the mix in the likes of press ups, deep knee bends and crunches or sit ups.

Getting Vitamin D from the early morning sun.

Even if you live in an area where the sun does not shine always expose your self outside in the morning. That is what I told my aunt to do. during winter she took herbal vitamin D capsules to supplement her diet.

I can tell you, after three years of telling and showing her how to lose weight to cure cancer she cured herself. She is so happy now and ever thankful to me showing her what to do.

Practical And Quick Weight Loss Approach For Teenagers

These days, almost everything is offered with instant results. Even the least that we did not expect to happen and we used treat as a long process of hard work are already made possible. Among these things is quick weight loss. In relation to this, let me share to you some practical approach to a quick weight loss technique for young bloods. These tips maybe not that new or will make you popular, but at least this will make your kids be in good health.

Obesity among teenagers is becoming a major catastrophe. This is because these cases are difficult to manage. It is not easy to control the habits and lifestyles of the teenagers. Young bloods are often independent and try to run life on their own ways. They consider themselves mature enough to manage all vital decisions. However, regardless of how independent they are, there are still ways on making your teenager always slim, fit, and healthy.

In order to make sure that your teenagers are always in good health and build, take note of these matters. Have you thought your kids about the two types of foods? Are they able to identify different foods that belong to those types? Have you ever tried to prepare your teenager home cooked meals? Have you ever reminded your teenager to refrain from junk foods or refrain from staying in front of the television for longer periods?

If your answer to these matters is all no, then you have failed your role as a good and careful parent. But do not feel so depressed because you are not alone. Many parents out there provide their children with unhealthy junk foods because they save a lot of time and they are cheaper compared to cooking meals often. Other than that, many parents also spent longer periods of time watching television which makes their children more like them. Also, majority of parents are working, which gives teenagers freedom to eat what they want even if it is not good for them.

When teenagers are not used in taking healthy foods right from their childhood, then it is just natural that they keep on eating unhealthy foods on their teenage or even adult years. These improper upbringings of unhealthy foods eating are only one among the many reasons of teenage obesity.

The only way to change eating preference of your kids is by changing your own preferences first. It is harder to change the eating habits of a teenager than changing the eating habits of little kids. If you show your teenagers that you are active in weight loss and fitness, then they are most likely to follow. The kitchen and the refrigerator should be filled with healthy foods. That is to make sure that your whole family eats them more often than junk foods. This is also a nice way to minimize the calorie consumption of your family.

Television is another big factor behind teenage obesity. It does not only make teenager inactive, but also influences their minds over those tempting junk and fatty food ads. As parents, it is your role to limit the television habits of your children. Instead, you should encourage them to be active on outdoor sports or at least walk along the neighborhood.

Following these precautions and simple ways, a diet program is merely unnecessary. But if you really insist of following one, just make sure to choose a diet program that works well for you and for the entire family.

Keep in mind that as parents, you have the options to educate your kids with the healthy and unhealthy lifestyle. Teach your kids and show them wisdom. Start losing weight and live a healthy lifestyle. Show them what is right and what should be done. By doing this, your kids are then sure to follow. This is an effective way for a quick weight lossand fight teenage obesity.

Running For Weight Loss - How Quick Should I Lose Weight?

And how quick should my running improve when using running for weight loss?

These are two questions that most people would like the answers to when using running for weight loss. They come hand in hand because if you can improve your running ability then you’ll also improve your ability to burn calories and lose weight.

However, there aren’t any common rules or set timescales where it can be said that everyone will lose 30 pounds over 3 months, or that you’ll lose 8 pounds in the next month, or that you’ll go from being able to run 3 miles in 45 minutes to running 3 miles in 30 minutes within two months.

Everybody has a different body, a different mind, and lives in a different environment, as well as being at different points in their running for weight loss plan.

Therefore, there are a range of factors that can affect the speed of your running and weight loss progress which are explained below.

1. Your starting weight

The more weight you need to lose the quicker it will drop off and the quicker your running improvement will be.

For example, someone who’s 140 pounds (10 stone) overweight is likely to lose 14 pounds (1 stone) very quickly whereas it will take longer for someone who only needs to lose 14 pounds to lose this weight.

The first person may be trying to halve their bodyweight whereas the second person may be aiming to lose only 10% of their bodyweight.

2. Your fitness level and amount of running experience

The better you become at running and the higher your fitness level the further you can run, the faster you can run, and the higher quality running methods you’re able to use.

This increases your ability to burn calories and lose weight quicker than someone of a lower running ability.

3. Consistency of running

Being able to stick to your running plan, while at the same time listening to your body and remaining injury free, are key parts to improving your fitness and using running for weight loss.

Consistent running over many weeks and months is far better for weight loss than repeating a cycle of having a few really good weeks of running followed by a week of rest or injury.

4. Your motivation

This relates to how often you’re willing to run, how closely you follow your running for weight loss plan, and how hard you’re willing to push yourself. Tick the right boxes and your running and weight loss will improve quicker.

There’s an old saying that “You get out what you put in”. If you aren’t motivated or don’t have the desire to put the time and effort in to lose weight and improve your life, then how can you expect anything other than average or poor results.

5. Social support

You’re more likely to be consistent and motivated with your running for weight loss plan if you have support from people like your partner, friends, and work colleagues. Try to get these people involved with your ambitions and let them help you towards your goals.

Studies have shown that you’re more likely to be successful at losing weight when you have social support because it helps you stick to your goals.

Although the questions of “How quick should I lose weight” and “How quick should my running improve when using running for weight loss?” are important, you should also think about the long term.

There’s no point in losing lots of weight quickly only to regain it just as quickly. The aim should be to lose weight consistently while staying within a safe limit of weight loss.

This allows you to maintain more muscle while losing weight from fat which makes it easier to keep the weight off over the long term.

Therefore, try to be patient with your running for weight loss plan, and remember the massive health benefits of running and the positive changes you’re making to your life along the way.

The Big Why Behind Your Weight Loss Workouts

What is the driving force, or motivation, behind a new campaign of weight loss workouts? Is it some big event that like your wedding, or you may have been a bridesmaid for your best friend, or even a school reunion? Whatever it was, chances are there is usually a big why involved in ramping up your training or even getting you started no matter what your special event is.

The reason I’ve been thinking about this lately is because I have just started planning my own wedding with my fiancé and I started thinking a little deeper about the real reason why we put ourselves through what we do.

This big why is the driving force that gets you out of bed every morning to inspire you to achieve any goal, whether it is related to your career, your family and relationship goals or even if it is your weight loss workouts that will get you into that dress so that you are the envy of your friends and the centre of attention like you should be.

The more I realise how important this big why is to the bigger picture of achieving weight loss success and how it effects your weight loss workouts, the more I realise that if you just brush it off and say whatever you will be going around and around in circles and destined for failure. Over and over again.

There is an old quote that goes along the lines of “if you do what you’ve always done, you get what you always got”. It is exactly spot on the mark.

The reason behind your why is going to be personal and more than likely it is going to be different to your best friend or your partner.

Sometimes it may even be for purely superficial reasons, or it may be for your health or you may even want to do it for your kids. It doesn’t matter what the driving force behind your big reason why is, the most important thing for you to take home is that you must actually have a reason why.

How can you find your why? Simply find a moment for a little bit of self reflection and see what your driving force truly is. What gets you out of bed everyday when your opportunity clock goes off? It has to be that end goal that will keep you going when it gets too cold or too hot or too whatever. It has to be that excuse breaker. Excuses never got people anywhere in the past and it sure won’t get you anywhere in the future.

I really encourage you to sit down and take some time and find out your real reason why. I promise you that your weight loss workouts will never be more productive when you have it all figured out.

Even if you find that you are ever struggling for motivation on any given day, your thoughts will be drawn to the big why that will drive you to achieve whatever your mind can conceive.

Now it’s time to start taking action and time for you to start thinking about your real reason why.

Good luck on your mission to weight loss success!
